Shopping for an LCD Picture Frame

Digital cameras give us a myriad of options of things too do with our photos. We can have them printed on paper, displayed on our computers, shared over the internet, and displayed on LCD picture frames. Most digital cameras have a liquid crystal display (LCD) on the back that is used for setting up the shot as well as displaying it afterward. In fact, there are many digital cameras that only have an LCD screen and not view finder at all. A recent development since the invention of the digital camera has been picture frames with an LCD screen. You can load your digital pictures in to the frame's memory and the pictures will be displayed just like on the back of the camera, only bigger. There are some key terms and elements you should be familiar with before you start shopping for one of these high-tech picture frames.

Memory
Some frames have internal memory, you link the frame to your computer, either through a USB or wireless connection, and save the pictures you want to the internal memory. Some frames that have card slots, the pictures are saved to a memory card. Most frames have a slot for SD cards, among other types, which is the type most commonly found in digital cameras. Some frames have both, pictures are loaded into the internal memory from the computer, read from the card, or saved to the internal memory from the card.

Screen Size
The screen size on these frames is measured the same way as computer monitors and TV screens. The measurement is diagonal from one corner to another.

Display Orientation
Pictures are taken in either a landscape (long edge to the bottom) or portrait (short edge to the bottom) orientation. Most LCD picture frames can be set in either orientation. Most will also automatically adjust images so they are displayed top side up no matter what the orientation of the frame.

Display Modes
A good LCD picture frame will have two display modes - static and slideshow. Static mode will show one picture and not change until the "next" button is pushed. Slideshow mode will cycle through all the pictures on the card or in the memory. The amount of time each image is displayed can be adjusted according to personal preference.

Screen Resolution
This is one of the most important elements to consider when shopping for an LCD picture frame. The resolution is how crisp and detailed the image on the screen is. Higher resolution means a better picture, many people prefer a smaller frame with higher resolution than a bigger frame with lower resolution.

Extra Features
Some frames come with features other than just displaying pictures. Some can display recipes, some have an alarm clock features, some even display the temperature.
